Having hair extensions means that I need to take a little extra care with my hair. One of the best products that I have found for my hair and extensions is Coconut Oil. Coconut Oil is amazing for hair because it has the ability to penetrate the inner parts of hair strands which allows it do work better than other hair products that just coat strands and can tend to just wash away when rinsed.

Giving your locks a coconut treatment is super easy and inexpensive. I use the Loving Earth Raw Organic Coconut Butter (Please note, this is the same product as Coconut Oil but Loving Earth describe the product as more of a 'butter' due to its texture which is creamier and more buttery than other coconut oils).

Make sure you choose a Coconut Oil that is an organic and raw as possible. If you're interested, you can read more about the methods Loving Earth use to create their beautiful coconut product by clicking here.

I usually do this once a week on a Friday or Saturday night and leave it on as an overnight treatment. Hair does not need to be washed before but it's personal choice, if you want to apply the treatment to freshly washed hair then go ahead - just note that you will need to wash your hair again after applying the Coconut Oil.

You will notice that Coconut Oil is solid at room temperate. If you have long or thick hair like myself, you may find that it is easier to separate the hair into sections so you can easily apply the oil. Scoop out some of the product and warm this between your hands until the oil becomes a liquid and apply this onto your hair. I focus the oil mostly on the ends of the hair where it is most dry and damaged. Continue doing this until your whole hair is coated. If you are leaving the treatment in overnight, make sure you cover your pillow with a towel to protect your bedding or wrap your hair up inside the towel and secure so it doesn't come loose.
When you wake in the morning, make sure you wash the product out using your regular shampoo and conditioner. If you have thick hair you may need to wash your hair twice to make sure you've removed any buildup of oil. Leave your hair to air dry if possible after washing - i find that this gives the best results.

If you want an extra burst of health and shine, give your hair a cold blast with the water when rinsing - this really makes a difference!
