Body Oils

Body oils are are often used for their moisturising benefits and their ability to soften the skin. They also have a range of other purposes from after-sun care to massage purposes and can even just be used to improve your mood.

I've been using one particular brand of body oil for a few years now and thought I would let you take a look at the pros and cons. I recently took the plunge and purchased a new type of body oil, so we will also take a look at how they compare.

My favourite body for quite some time has been the Palmers Cocoa Butter Moisturizing Body Oil.

This body has the typical Palmers Cocoa Butter scent, which is something I personally love.  Although the bottle states that it is 'lightly' scented, it is quite fragrant and may not be for everyone. However, if you like that cocoa smell then you're sure to love this one.

Cocoa Butter is known to have benefits such as roughness in the skin, loss of elasticity, scars and dryness. My main skin problems are roughness and dryness - especially on the legs, and I love what this body oil does for those problem areas. It helps to prevent water loss, which means your skin will stay hydrated for longer.

I use this oil by adding a few squirts into a running bath.
After soaking in a bath with this product, you'll instantly notice how much softer your skin feels. The formula also contains Vitamin E which will help keep the cells in your skin happy and healthy, diminishing the appearance of lines, wrinkles and scars.
Another way to use the body oil is to apply it directly to the skin.
After bathing or showering, pour a small amount into the palm of your hand and massage into any areas that need attention.
I suggest only using the body oils at night, otherwise you may feel a bit slippery or oily during the day.

I have used this oil on multiple occasions as an alternative to shaving cream or soap. It leaves my skin feeling amazingly soft and smooth. However, if you choose to try this make sure you don't have sensitive skin (or remember to do a test patch) and be prepared to change your razor often, as it will clog up the blades.

The oil blends into the skin nicely, and it doesn't leave you feeling like a big greasy mess. You can feel it on your skin, but it's not an unpleasant feeling and is quite nice after you've bathed and are settling down and ready for bed.

The Palmers Moisturizing Body Oil will cost about $10.60, and I often pick mine up from either Priceline or my local supermarket.

The Neutrogena Body Oil is the next product that I decided to give a try.

The scent of this body oil was the first thing I loved.
It's such an unusual smell that may not appeal to everyone, but I do enjoy it just as much as the Cocoa Butter smell. If you don't enjoy the fragrance, it also comes in a non-scented variety.

This body oil has received large amounts of praise and positive reviews and I can do nothing but agree with all that is said.

The formula absorbs very quickly into the skin and leaves it feeling almost like velvet.
I like to use this one after the shower by rubbing it onto the skin and pat drying the areas I have applied it to.

I find this one to be lighter than the Cocoa Butter formula which was nice. The Palmers oil can sometimes feel like a little too much on the skin.

This product is a little more expensive at $12.99 and I picked this bottle up from Priceline.

If you're looking to try out a body oil, I suggest taking a look at these two products.
Both are very similar in benefits, but have two very different scents.

I think the Neutrogena could take over and become the new favourite, as I do enjoy the scent and the lightness of the formula. But I think I will stick to keeping the Palmer's formula for bathtub and shaving use.

Do you use a body oil?

  2. I love body oils so much more than lotions but haven't yet tried either of these! I think the Palmer's one will be great for the upcoming winter. :)
